World Day of Prayer at St Andrew’s URC

The World Day of Prayer (WDP) is an international, ecumenical, Christian lay women’s initiative!

Its origins date back to the 19th Century, when women in the USA & Canada began a variety of prayer missions being concerned about women and children welfare. Since 1812, women have encouraged one another to engage in personal and communal prayers, despite opposition from all-male mission boards. Gradually, an annual day or week of prayers emerged worldwide.

Today, the WDP service is written by the women from a different country each year and the same service is celebrated around the world in the same 24 hours!

In 2025, it is St Andrew’s turn to host the WDP service on Friday March 7th, for a few local churches. The service this year will start at 7pm and has been written by women in the Cook Islands. There will be refreshments available afterwards.

Please put the date in your diaries and come along with your friends and family, the more the merrier!

We are also hoping to transform St Andrews into a Pacific island for the night- so worth coming along just for that!
