Peterborough Street Pastors desperately need you!!
Peterborough Street Pastors have been patrolling in Peterborough for 10 years!! Our Management Committee is the smallest it has ever been. We desperately need people who are able to join our team to oversee the work of the Street Pastors in the city.
We are very friendly group and we meet four times a year plus the Annual General Meeting. The meetings last no longer than 1 ½ hours. This does not sound much but it is vital to ensure that we continue to operate legally.

Peterborough City Centre on a Saturday night is very different from the place you may experience if you go there during the day for a shopping trip. There are clubs and pubs filled with people out for the night. Many of the people out on the streets are a bit the worse for wear. They can become quite emotional or aggressive or vulnerable. There are homeless people trying to find a place to sleep for the night. There are fights – sometimes between couples, sometimes between gangs, sometimes racially motivated. There are people high on drugs. There are women at risk of sexual assault.
Throughout the Bible, God calls us to take care of people and to love them. Jesus told his followers that the two greatest commands are to love God and love our neighbours. He makes it clear in the story of the Good Samaritan that our neighbour is anyone we meet who is vulnerable. In the Gospels, we see Jesus, time and time again, caring for those in need. He doesn’t discriminate against them. He doesn’t judge them or reject them. Instead he gives them time and love. He recognises every person’s worth as an individual.
As his followers, we are called to do the same. We are called not to judge but to love. Whether someone is drunk, or on drugs, or homeless, or a prostitute. We don’t know the circumstances that have led people to the place they are. This is where Street Pastors come in – they are there to show people God’s unconditional love and support.
God has given us all different gifts and you might have a real heart for the work of Street Pastors but not have the gifts to get out there on the frontline. Your gifts can be used on the Management Committee to enable others to get out there. Please consider joining us.
