Project Worker

Overview

The charity Light Project Peterborough has a number of projects in the Peterborough area that serve the community and reveal Jesus. The main projects that are currently active are the Peterborough Winter Night Shelter, the Garden House day time provision for those sleeping on the streets, City Centre Chaplaincy and Across Peterborough web based information platform primarily serving the Christian community.

As part of this exciting work a Project Worker is sought to support the smooth and effective delivery of the charities activities. The primary focus of this role can be summarised around six key areas:

  • The Peterborough Winter Night Shelter
  • Volunteer liaison and support
  • Recording outcomes
  • Church, partnership and community relationships
  • Empowering Guests on a one to one and group basis
  • Fundraising

This position is offered on a fixed term contract for 3 days per week from 25th November 2019 to 12th April 2020. Remuneration of £21,000 per year with 4 weeks holiday plus bank holidays pro rata. Additional hours may be available dependent on the charities needs.

Person Specification

The person will need to have a passion for wanting to help those less fortunate than themselves, with excellent communication and co-ordination skills coupled with a flexible approach to their work (LPP runs services 7 days a week and there will be early morning and evening shifts).

Working with a team of volunteers and other staff you will be an advocate for those we serve and have knowledge of the principles of change. You will work within LPP policies and procedures and support volunteers to also do so.

You will be an effective professional, able to broker appropriate services (whether that internally or externally) to support progression towards the charities aspirations and goals. A full driving licence is essential, and the ability to drive a large (long wheel base) vehicle, as the project worker will be transporting guests to and from night shelter venues.

Light Project Peterborough is a Christian rooted charity so it is essential that applicants are respectful toward and have the ability to articulate the Christian faith.
